For sale here is an impregnated Orvis “Bakelite” 8’6″ 3/2 5-6wt bamboo fly rod. Serial #5168. The rod was made in 1947 by John Rosencrantz. The rod is in excellent condition with a few minor issues. All wraps are sound with the varnish over the wraps beginning to show slight cracks. The hook-keeper is missing and there are some light scratches in the blank. All sections are full length with a set in one of the tips, which I will get straightened before shipping.

Chestnut brown wraps over medium dark tempered cane. Almost all of the script on the rod has worn off with the exception of the serial number. Cigar style grip 5 3/4′ in length. The cork is somewhat soiled and is lightlyridged in places. Aluminum down-locking reel seat with a walnut spacer. Ferrule sizes 17/64 and 11/64 with a pleasing fit. The rod weighs 4.95 oz. The rodhas a swift medium-fast action, much lighter in the hand than one would expect. A terrific all-around rod that would excel on bigger rivers and lakes. Described as a 6wt on the tube but would do best a line size down as with most older Orvis rods. Includes original green bag and tube with label 85%remaining. Don’t pass up this classic Orvis rod from the golden age at a great price.
